La Iglesia Católica dedica el mes de julio en honor a la Preciosa Sangre de Jesús. La sangre designa el principio de vida, la carne el cuerpo. Por su muerte y resurrección, Jesucristo entrega su cuerpo y su sangre por todo el mundo y por cada uno de nosotros. Para los creyentes, el pan y el vino son realmente el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo.

In honoring His Most Precious Blood, we are reminded of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ in shedding His blood on the cross for the cause of our redemption. And, that sacrifice is renewed, re-presented, and perpetuated in the celebration of every Holy Mass. The month of July is dedicated to the Precious Blood of Jesus, a devotion that goes all the way back to the early church. The 1969 reforms of the liturgical calendar combined the Feast of the Precious Blood with the Feast of the Body of Christ (Corpus Christi), under the title "Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ”. The devotion also received official papal approval from John XXIII in 1960.
